Twitter giveaways are an easy viral technique that you can use to bring tons of traffic and sales to your website. By offering an iPad (for example purposes) to your Twitter fanbase, you can set up a unique contest where individuals who retweet your giveaway are entered into a contest to win the iPad. Everyone wants a chance to win, especially when it only costs a Tweet, so a high number of people who see your Tweet will probably retweet.
All of this social engagement will drive traffic to your site, increase your social authority, and likely earn you sales. With more than 250 million daily Twitter users, it’s not uncommon for major Twitter giveaways to attract 3 million retweets or more. When your Tweet gets this much publicity, nearly every daily active Twitter user will see your tweets one or more times a day. If your product is in high enough demand, you may see a nice surge in sales.
There are, however, a few caveats about when and how you should use Twitter giveaways. If you don’t have at least 3,000 or 5,000 followers, your giveaway likely won’t have the potential required to go viral. In this case, you’d be better served speaking to Twitter giveaway companies that have amassed a big following on the network. Some of them will even provide the iPad as part of their standard fee.
Secondly, Twitter giveaways are better for products with a large targeted demographic, not niche products. If 99% of your Twitter traffic would have no interest in purchasing your product, find another way to market. This means that a site that sells T-Shirts for men and women would get better results than a site selling a WordPress plug-in. Use your own judgment and common sense.
