It’s no secret that social media marketing is incredibly important to getting your company’s message across to the masses. With Facebook recently hitting one billion users, you know you need a presence there if you’re planning on reaching a large customer base. What you might not have expected though, is the explosion of another social media site — Pinterest.
Pinterest came on the scene in 2011, when it was deemed to be the best new start-up that year. Today, Pinterest drives an incredible amount of traffic to websites each day. Its influence has grown considerably in a very short period of time. In fact, it is estimated that about 80% of all pins on Pinterest get re-pinned.
In November 2012, Pinterest announced the creation of business accounts. These accounts give businesses the option of adding “Pin It” buttons to their websites as well as icons that will direct visitors to their website directly to their pinning boards. These widgets are a new feature, and corporations of all sizes will be eager to start using them.
Even though Pinterest is still relatively small in the grand scheme of the number of Facebook users out there, it has grown more quickly than the social media giant. With the average person pinning and re-pinning approximately 200 pins a month, Pinterest is showcasing more than its addictive format; it’s also demonstrating a social media style that the public obviously loves.
Pinterest has the ability to potentially reach fourteen times as many people as Facebook. That statistic in itself is staggering. With such an incredible amount of potential, you might be wondering if the social media marketing world is ready for Pinterest. It’s hard to say. One thing is for sure, though — the success of Pinterest is already obvious. If your competitors are pinning and you’re not…you might be falling behind.
