Facebook Timeline has been released for Facebook Pages, and businesses everywhere are rushing to adopt a new cover photo and stylized layout for their brand’s Facebook page. You should be too because it is an excellent way to enhance your brand and add some call-to-actions to the above-the-fold text on your Facebook page.
Adopting the Facebook Timeline is simple – log into your normal Facebook account and click over to your Business page. The step-by-step instructions at the top of the screen will guide you through creating the actual Timeline, but what do you do once you’ve converted? Simple – upload your cover photo.
Upload a cover photo
The cover photo is now the most important part of your Facebook Brand Page. With its centralized location, you can bet that every pair of eyeballs that visits your Facebook page will see your cover photo. Use this space to promote your brand with some of these ideas:
Include unique brand-specific imagery
Don’t just upload a logo that everyone has seen before; instead, use that logo in unique spots or styles. If your company has been an event sponsor, for example show your logo associated with the event. If you put your logo on your products, show pictures of your customers using the products. Think in terms of your brand image and remember that every visitor to your Facebook page will see your cover photo.
Include some call-to-action text
One great way to do this is to draw an arrow on your cover photo to the new “Message” button on your Facebook Timeline. This easily-overlooked button allows individuals to message your Page directly, increasing the amount of one-on-one contact you have with customers. Draw customers attention to it – they are probably not even aware it exists.
DO NOT, however, promote products or services in your Facebook cover photo. This is against the Facebook Terms and Conditions.
