What are the size requirements for the BRE? In the video, it looked smaller than the reply card. Is there a maximum size that the BRE can’t exceed? Thanks!

Good catch Nancy…you are absolutely right…unfortunately we ran out of actual samples so we just used a mock up for the video.

The size BRE you would want to use for this format is 4.75″ high by 6.5″ wide. This gets folded in half and then spot-glued to the inside of the double postcard.

A standard DPC is 4.25″ high by 6″ wide so it fits perfectly in the BRE.

Great job guys. I like the blog a lot. Any issues using this tactic in a DPC/Billboard combo? Cost differential based on thickness/weight? Issues with the glassine because of additional thickness? Also – are folks then eliminating the BRC imprint from the reply side of the card when using this method? If so, I assume this doesn’t run afoul of the DMM definition of a DPC. Is that so? Really cool idea!

Good questions above.

1. You can use this DPC format with a billboard backer. We did so for Forbes. The best way to do it would be to lay the BRE flat on the backer and then the DPC on top of the BRE (not inside). Or even better, the BRE and then a single postcard on top. This second way would be most cost-effective but you’re losing some real estate. Don’t forget that billboard backers mail out at flat rate which is not cheap!

2. Putting the BRE in the DPC automatically disqualifies the mail piece for postcard rate. As a result, you can use the imprint or not. If you leave it on, then you’re giving the person the option to just mail the card back with no payment, or use the BRE with payment. If you take it off, you’re forcing them to use the BRE regardless. I would say the 2nd option is best because it frees up some room on the mail piece to sell the offer.
